Let us not also forget the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme also know as SURE-P which the then Goodluck Ebele Jonathan administration churned out with the purpose of reducing the amount of subsidy paid on petroleum products particularly Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as Petrol. However, the policy failed woefully as it was sadly described as a drainpipe of the economy. This was after the policy has gulped billions of Naira.
To the crux of this discourse; The Africa Continent Free Trade Area. On the 7th day of July, particularly at 10:43am, President Muhammadu Buhari appended his signature to the Africa Continent Free Trade Area. The cache there, however, is that the policy needs governmental will and investment. Sadly, this is where Nigeria lacks!
In a country where corruption, lack of governmental will and investment, deceit and insincerity pervades the political and econmiec landscape; can such policy work. In the end, won’t it just be the tale of another novel policy being aborted prematurely like the rest? Won’t it just be a waste of time eventually? WHAT DO YOU THINK?
