Also Known as Cannabis is a psychoactive drug from the cannabis plant used for medicinal or recreational purposes. It can be used by smoking, vaporizing, within a food or as an extract; it has mental and physical effects creating a general change in perception, heightened mood and also an increase in appetite. Though also known for its medicinal use, it is the most widely used illegal drug in the world and research found out that cannabis has been used for psychoactive effects at least 2500 years ago.
Medicinal uses of marijuana include for the treatment of epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, Crohn’s disease, Glaucoma among others. But marijuana use has been largely known for its abuse most especially among youths. Among effects of marijuana are the following;
- Increased appetite and thirst
- Impaired judgment
- Problems with memory
- Symptoms of withdrawal after long-term use
- Temporary paranoia and hallucinations.
It is also not news that for those under 25 years of age, marijuana use can impair memory and learning ability which begs the question, why do we still indulge in these things that we are very sure of its side effects and we know might kill us someday?
